Harriet gained her BA(Hons) in Illustration at Exeter College of Art and Design between 1982-85.

She then farmed, ran a bakery and gardened for the next 20 years until returning to her first love; drawing. Commissioned work from architects and property companies in Lincolnshire formed the bulk of her work at first. This has been expanded in the last year to include a range of prints and cards from original drawings.

Her home is the lovely village of Northlew near the edge of Dartmoor; the moor is where she spends much of her free time, walking her dog Lily (plus any others she can borrow). Her work as a gardener helps balance studio days indoors and continues to provide inspiration for botanical drawings.

Some of Harriet's older work is signed Helliwell but she now uses her maiden name for work purposes, hence the new signature on more recent work.
